Two things set Noarlunga Downs apart from the suburbs on the hills behind it. The ground is flat, and the Onkaparinga River is close. Reed beds, stormwater drains and the vegetated corridor of the Onkaparinga River National Park run close to residential fence lines, and they are permanent rodent habitat rather than seasonal. Rodents work those corridors all year and move into roof spaces and wall cavities when the nights cool. Baiting alone treats the animals currently inside; without entry-point exclusion the same route is simply reused the following autumn.
